Drape Moulding
Drape Moulding involves placing a piece of plastic on a heat source to a pre-set temperature. It is often used when large curves are on the component or when optical clarity is of prime importance.
The technique begins with the softening of the sheet by thermal process, whereby it flexes and conforms to the shape of the mould under its own weight or by slight pressure applied by an operator
Ideal for maintaining sheet wall thickness throughout the profile of the part, whilst maintaining a superior control of surface finish.
Benefits Include
- High optical clarity
- Undercuts are possible
- Higher definition than Vacuum Forming
- Lower tooling costs compared to Injection Moulding
- Ideally suited to low/medium production volumes
